VOLUNTEERING

Tushita Volunteers with Lama Zopa RinpocheThank you for your interest in volunteering at Tushita!

Volunteering with us is a wonderful opportunity to live in the blessed environment of a multi-cultural Dharma centre near His Holiness the Dalai Lama's residence while benefiting others.

In preparation for hosting the 4 week Most Secret Hayagriva retreat with Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche in March 2010, we are seeking volunteers.

All the following positions are based on a 6 day working week (although we can't guarantee any days off during the retreat!) – food and board will be provided at Tushita as well as the offer of a free course after the Hayagriva retreat. We usually ask for a minimum commitment of 5 months (with a mutual 1 month trial period), but some of the positions are only for the duration of the retreat.

Here is a list of the positions available:

VOLUNTEER MANAGER – Start Date As Soon as Possible!!

The volunteer manager role is a key one here at Tushita in the run-up to, and duration of the Hayagriva retreat.  It involves keeping a day to day overview of the needs of the centre, working closely with our team of dedicated volunteers, as well as hands-on participation in some of the daily tasks.  Some previous managerial experience is essential as well as an openness to working with people from many different cultures and backgrounds. Energy, enthusiasm and experience of working in a dharma centre environment would all help in this role.  Please note that this specific role is only for the lead up to and the duration of the Hayagriva retreat, after which the position will be under review.

KITCHEN MANAGER - Start Date As Soon as Possible!!

To oversee our busy kitchen, we need a keen kitchen manager. We currently have 5 cooks, 4 full-time and 1 part-time.  Plus, we will be increasing our kitchen staff to cover the Hayagriva retreat period.  Daily tasks will include managing the kitchen staff, preparing the weekly menus, overseeing the ordering of stock, supervising meal & break times, monitoring hygiene and equipment.  Ideally, you will already have some kitchen experience and some knowledge of Hindi or Tibetan would be useful. From April onwards, the role would develop and other wider responsibilities would be taken on in the day to day running of the centre, following the Hayagriva retreat.

    HAYAGRIVA - EXTRA SUPPORT

We are also interested to hear from you if you are keen to help out behind the scenes during the retreat... extra volunteers to assist with the smooth running of the retreat are most welcome. We will need extra hands on deck to assist the kitchen manager at meal times, help maintain the facilities in clean working order and be generally available for any unexpected missions! Unfortunately, we would not be able to offer accommodation at this time, but we would provide meals and a good opportunity to learn and grow in the service of others.

If you are interested in joining the Tushita team, please contact Linda at director@tushita.info and include an explanation of why you would like to offer service at Tushita, your skills and interests and any previous experiences at Dharma centres.

We hope to meet you soon as a member of the Tushita Team!

MAY ALL BEINGS BE HAPPY!
