An Arhat is one who has realised the true nature of reality and severed the root of conditioned existence.

The 16 Arhats were part of the 500 that formed the first coucil at Rajagrha.

To pray to the 16 Arhats is auspicious as they bring good fortune and help propogate the Dharma and assist Dharma practioners.
