McLEOD GANJ > HIS
HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA'S TEACHINGS
His Holiness the Dalai
Lama used to give annual public teachings at the main
temple in McLeod Ganj at Losar (the Tibetan New
Year in February/March) for 2 weeks and during the monsoon months (late
June-September) for 3-10 days. In the past couple of years however, the
pattern of His Holiness' schedule has changed significantly, and
we recommend that you check the online schedule http://dalailama.com/teachings/schedule
for the most current information.
The registration process
for Teachings in McLeod Ganj is very easy: just take your passport, 2
passport photographs and 10 rupees to the Security Office on Bhagsu
Road
in McLeod Ganj (221560). Registration starts one week before the
teachings. There is no deadline as such and it is usually okay to
register even when the teachings have already started. For more
information about registration check out this link from His Holiness'
site www.dalailama.com.
You cannot reserve seats for
His Holiness’ teachings and
there is no number limit, since everybody sits on the ground (Tibetan
tradition is that people reserve their seats a few days before the
teachings start by taping down a piece of cardboard/plastic with their
name on – there is particular demand for those places from
where you can see His Holiness).
Please bring a
cushion to sit on, an
FM radio to get the English translation and a cup for the tea that is
offered (sometimes Tibetan butter tea, be prepared for a taste
sensation!).
Please
be aware of the weather conditions
here during the teaching
times:
In March it can be still very cold in the day (it might be freezing at
nighttime) and sometimes it might even snow. When the sun comes out, it
can be quite warm or even hot in exposed areas, so a hat or some sun
protection is advisable. Come prepared, dress in layers and have an
umbrella or other wet weather gear ready.
In the monsoon months you definitely need to be prepared for rain. The
temperatures vary, so dressing in layers is advisable again.
Tushita Meditation Centre
is NOT the organiser of His
Holiness’ teachings, though we sometimes organise very popular
daily
review sessions at Tushita during the Losar teachings and sometimes
during the monsoon teachings (no advanced registration necessary, time
to be announced).
